Bamberg’s Phoenix Specialty celebrates 110 years in business March 23

BAMBERG, S.C. -- This year one of the most extraordinary companies in South Carolina will celebrate its 110th anniversary. The Hurst family will host the Phoenix Specialty Mfg. Co. Gold Anniversary celebration for employees, customers, local and state dignitaries and media in Bamberg on Thursday, March 23.

Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing is a fourth-generation, family-owned company that has now operated in Bamberg, SC, for 50 of those 110 years. But as old and established as it is, the company's parts are used by original equipment manufacturers around the world in cutting-edge products for the 21st century.

The company's products – specialty washers, seals, shims, gaskets and spacers – are deceptively simple, and some are incredibly tiny, but they are made to exacting standards out of an array of high-tech materials. Phoenix products can be found on the moon, on Mars, in Olympic bobsleds and NASCAR race cars. If you travel via commercial airlines, the jet engine more than likely has parts manufactured by Phoenix Specialty. The company is now a critical component in South Carolina's burgeoning aerospace manufacturing cluster, which now supports more than 100,000 jobs and has a national economic impact of $19 billion.

Founded in New York in 1907, Phoenix rapidly assumed the lead as a short- to medium-run washer and gasket manufacturer, with indisputably high-quality products and an extraordinary level of attention to customer service. With railroads and utility companies as early clients, Phoenix flourished and expanded. In 1967, with a long list of national and international clients waiting to be served, Phoenix made the strategic decision to move the entire manufacturing plant and facilities to Bamberg, SC.

Now manufacturing a product range of more than 150,000 different items, the company maintains an extensive warehouse with more than 400 million parts – meaning it can provide same-day shipping at a moment's notice. However large or small the customer, Phoenix Specialty always delivers the same exceptional services and high-quality products.

With an extensive inventory of standard and exotic materials, combined with a state-of-the-art tool room, Phoenix Specialty boasts the shortest lead time for manufacturing custom parts in the industry – hence the tagline: "From Print, to Part, to You – FAST!"
