COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 7, 2017) – Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, Richland County Council Chairwoman Joyce Dickerson, Richland School District One Chair Cheryl Harris and the City of Columbia will host the First Day Festival in collaboration with Ynotu2, Inc. from 2-5 p.m. on August 6 at Spirit Communications Park.
“The beginning of the school year can be a hectic time for both students and parents, so we’re partnering with Ynotu2, Inc. to not only provide a fun time for attendees but also assist parents by giving away book bags and school supplies and provide things like free haircuts and health screenings,” said Mayor Benjamin.
Festival activities include arts and crafts, face painting, free haircuts, free hair care for girls, resources and information from community vendors, free health screenings, free kids fingerprinting, free vision tests and a kids’ zone equipped with bounce houses and more.
“Although the mission is to assist families with the burden of back to school costs, we also want to expose them to the beautiful stadium that’s located within minutes of their communities,” said Kimani Davis, founder of Ynotu2, Inc. “We are always looking for an opportunity to inspire kids to think beyond their current circumstances.”
DJ Prince Ice of Alpha Media will provide music at the festival.
