Construction To Begin At Richland Library Southeast

Staff Continue Offering Services at Onsite Temporary Cottage

Columbia, SC- As Richland Library prepares for the renovation and reconfiguration of its Southeast location (7421 Garners Ferry Road), it is temporarily closing the building to the public, starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, October 21.

The library plans to shift services to an onsite construction cottage by late October, allowing staff to continue offering holds pick-up, a curated collection and Internet access to customers during the renovation process.

It is the first time that any improvements will be made to Richland Library Southeast since relocating to the current facility in 1992. Customers can expect to see increased access to technology, a tinker space, gaming lab and an expanded children's area. There are also plans to include more comfortable seating and enhancements to the building's exterior.

The upgrades are part of a nearly $5 million project that is planned for Richland Library Southeast, made possible by Richland County residents who passed a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.

Construction is expected to last 12 to 18 months. To check out the latest building updates at Richland Library Southeast, including project renderings, please visit buildingyourlibrary.com.
