Lexington DJJ’s Back-to-School Bash a Big Hit

DJJ's Lexington office did their part to make sure students were ready for the new school year. Lexington staff hosted a community bash last Friday, August 18.

DJJ partnered with SC Probation, Pardon and Parole, Splash Omnimedia, Turning Pointe Youth Initiative, Town of Lexington, DSS, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and others to offer a fun-filled day of food and games.

About 150 kids turned out to enjoy the festivities. Hotdogs, hamburgers, and other food were available at no cost. About 90 bookbags full of school supplies were given out, as well as gently used clothes.

No first day of school is complete without a fresh haircut or coat of nail polish. About 50 kids received free haircuts from Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology. Dozens of young ladies also had their nails done.

Columbia Fireflies mascot, Mason, also attended the Back-to-School Bash.
