Barnes plans to discuss his award-winning book, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, and answer questions from the audience. A book sale and signing are set to follow the program.

The joyful story of a young boy's trip to the barbershop, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut swept the 2018 children's book awards - winning the Newbery Honor, Caldecott Honor, Ezra Jack Keats Award and Coretta Scott King Author and Illustrator Honors. Described by Kirkus Reviews as "one of the best reads for young black boys in years," Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut uses poetic text and vibrant illustrations to show how a fresh cut can help a boy feel like a king.

Get involved and show off your fresh cut. Tweet the library a photo of your #odetothefreshcut.
