Panera Bread To Donate $3,175 To Serve And Connect At Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Donation made in honor of new Panera Bread café in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – January 30, 2019 – Covelli Enterprises, the largest franchisee of Panera Bread, will present a check for $3,175 to Serve and Connect on Tuesday, February 5 as a result of the company’s fundraising efforts during the month of January. The formal check presentation will occur at 10:00 a.m. at the brand new Panera at 1321 Roberts Branch Parkway off Killian Road as part of its Ribbon Cutting celebration. Panera food and beverages along with Panera swag bags filled with goodies will be provided to all invited guests and media in attendance.

Serve and Connect, formerly Heroes in Blue, is a local organization founded by the widow of a Forest Acres police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2015. The funds being presented were collected as a result of Panera’s January Change Roll-Up program within all 7 Columbia/Lexington Cafes and will be used to support the organization’s mission to bridge the gap between community wellness and local police officers.

“We are so thankful for the support from the Covelli Enterprises as part of their Round Up Panera Campaign. The donations will directly support our mission of igniting positive change through police and community partnerships,” said Kassy Alia, Founder and CEO of Serve and Connect.”

In attendance at the Ribbon Cutting and formal check presentation Tuesday will be representatives from Panera Bread, Serve and Connect, and the Columbia Metro Chamber. Local police offers and chamber members will also be present.

The new Panera location, equipped with a convenient drive-thru, kiosk ordering, delivery, and rapid pick-up, officially opened on Tuesday, January 15, and the Grand Opening included several days of special offers. It is the 7th Panera bakery-cafe in the Columbia area and the 26th Covelli-owned location in the South Carolina/Georgia region.

Covelli Enterprises acquired 22 Panera locations in South Carolina and Georgia in late 2016 and has since opened 5 additional cafes. The company operates 315 Panera Bread bakery-cafes in eight states, employs nearly 35,000 people, and donates more than $30 million annually to local non-profit organizations and hunger relief agencies in all markets where it operates restaurants.
