Richland Library Officially Reopens Southeast Location

Columbia, SC- After nearly 18 months of construction, Richland Library is reopening the doors to its Southeast location on Friday, April 12 and inviting the community to take a look at the newly-designed facility.

The roughly 19,000 square-foot structure, located at 7421 Garners Ferry Road, offers customers enhanced spaces, such as:

CHILDREN'S AREA: Inspire lifelong learning, get your kids ready for kindergarten or build reading muscles in our new Children's Area.

TEEN GAMING LAB: Test out the latest consoles, join a gaming tournament or challenge your friends to a tabletop game. It's perfect for beginners and seasoned pros.

MAKERSPACE: Tinker, experiment and create with tools in both guided and open lab sessions. We can't wait to show you our new high-resolution photo scanning station, sewing machines, DIY STEAM projects and more.

MEETING SPACES: Learn, create and share in flexible spaces that support community collaboration, group discussions and more.

MULTISENSORY ROOM: Reserve this space to calm your mind and body. Let the adjustable lighting, bubble tubes, weighted blankets, manipulatives and more create a soothing, sensory experience.

Customers can also enjoy a more than 7,000 square-foot Courtyard. The outdoor space is the perfect spot to sit and read a book, access WiFi or enjoy a program.

In addition, one percent of the construction budget went toward a one-of-a-kind, community-driven public art piece by Jerome Meadows. He created three figures - two adults and one child - who are faceless, representing diversity in the community, and Meadows worked with local residents to incorporate meaningful text, including the Sweet Potato Festival, Congaree National Park and the Harriett Barber House.

The upgrades are part of the more than $5 million project that was planned for the Southeast location. It marks the final project, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.
