AIKEN, S.C. (February 4, 2019) – Savannah River Remediation (SRR) superheroes were recognized with an award from the American Heart Association at the 2019 SRR Heart Walk Campaign kickoff.

The 2019 CSRA Heart Walk’s mission is “To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.” SRR employees are proving their commitment to living healthier lives by receiving the AHA Workplace Health Solution award for 2019. SRR is one of two companies in the CSRA to receive the award.

The AHA Workplace Health Solution award is based on a process that allows SRR to assess the culture, structure, and health results from the Journey of Wellness health program led by SRR Wellness Program Manager Roger Staten.

“The American Heart Association encourages SRR to create a work atmosphere that provides workers with programs, services, and information that inspire them to be more attentive to their personal heart health,” Staten said. “Our most important accomplishment is helping our workforce adapt to living healthier lifestyles.”

SRR Process Safety and Regulatory Group Senior Engineer Azikiwe Hooker is leading the 2019 SRR Heart Walk Campaign with Closure Admin/Modification Closure Coordinator Tessa Griffin as co-chair. Together, they have built a team of Heart Walk coaches and volunteers and are aiming to raise $20,000 to put toward the CSRA goal of $800,000.

“The Heart Walk Campaign is important as it raises awareness, supports research, and encourages everyone to become active and lead a healthy lifestyle,” Hooker said. “Benefits outlast the campaign by reminding us to do as much physical activity as we can comfortably tolerate and to do little things throughout the day to break up the sometimes-sedentary nature of work. In memory of my father, Dr. Atu Hooker, who lost his life unexpectedly to a heart attack in 2011, it is my goal to continue the tradition of successful SRR Heart Walk campaigns.”

The CSRA Heart Walk will be held at the North Augusta Greeneway on March 9, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. For more information, visit http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=3948&pg=entry.
