South Carolina Volunteer Awarded Volunteer of the Year Award from Make-A-Wish® America

400 Wishes and counting! Erin, Shiasia, Sara Kate, Jayden, Declan, Arkeim, Hunter, Diondre... these names represent just a few of the lives that Dana Miller has impacted as a Volunteer Wish Granter for Make-A-Wish South Carolina. In recognition of her outstanding dedication to wish kids, Make-A-Wish America bestowed the distinguished Suzie Allen Volunteer of the Year award to Dana on October 18, 2018. The award was presented at the 2018 Make-A-Wish America Annual Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Current and former wish kids, siblings, parents, staff members and fellow volunteers have all been touched by Dana’s endless empathy and passion to bring hope in the midst of trying times- all fueled by the precious memory of her brother’s smile when receiving his wish to meet the Chicago Cubs.

As a Wish Granter, Volunteer-Regional Leader, and fundraiser for the South Carolina chapter, she has fulfilled each job description to its fullest. She serves as the Volunteer-Regional Leader in the Midlands area, coordinating volunteer assignments for all wish kids and training every new volunteer in the area. Having personally helped grant over 400 wishes, she has experience to share in any issue or discussion that arises. She understands the nuances, challenges, and joys of wish granting and is quick to lend a hand to her fellow volunteers.

The South Carolina chapter is very proud that Dana was chosen out of thousands of nationwide volunteers to be the recipient of this special achievement. Susanna Marino, vice president of finance and operations, who works closely with volunteers remarked, “She is generous to a fault and has truly given her life to the mission of Make-A-Wish South Carolina and daily goes above and beyond to ensure each child receives the wish of a lifetime. Dana truly deserves to be recognized as the Suzie Allen Volunteer of the Year because she exemplifies what it means to give and live the mission.”
