A great day of golf is coming to Woodcreek Farms Golf Course in Elgin as Columbia International University hosts The First Annual CIU Golf Classic on May 2.
The format for the event is Four-Person Scramble with prizes and awards. Lunch and dinner are provided. Registration begins at 10:30 with a noon shotgun start. Sponsorship opportunities for the CIU Golf Classic are available with proceeds from the event assisting in the growth of CIU athletics.
In the six-year history of CIU athletics the school has fielded teams in soccer, basketball, cross country and track with women’s softball, women’s volleyball and the return of men’s golf in the 2018-2019 school year. Future plans include the addition of baseball and new facilities, including a field house and the completion of an eight-lane Olympic-style Mondotrack.
CIU athletics is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and has applied for membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
CIU Athletics Director James Whitaker says the CIU Golf Classic is a great opportunity for the university to showcase the exciting things that are happening in CIU athletics.
“This tournament will allow us to raise funds to support the growth of CIU athletics as we strive to compete with excellence, to develop character in our student-athletes, and to serve and impact our community,” Whitaker said.
CIU is experiencing growth in enrollment and has announced $25 million in expansion plans for the campus. CIU is accredited by SACS-COC. Information on CIU programs and enrollment is available here or call (800) 777-2227, ext. 5024.
