Union County Carnegie Library Receives Historic Preservation Honor Award

Columbia (June 21, 2019)- The Union County Carnegie Library has been selected to receive the Historic Preservation Honor Award this Friday, June 21st. Sponsored by Preservation South Carolina, the SC Department of Archives and History, and the Office of the Governor, the Historic Preservation Awards recognize exceptional accomplishments in the preservation, rehabilitation, and interpretation of South Carolina’s architectural and cultural heritage.

The historical Union County Carnegie Library was one of fourteen libraries built in the early 1900’s in South Carolina by the Carnegie Corporation. It is the oldest of the Carnegie Libraries and only one of five that is still actively serving the community as a public library. Harper General Contractors had the privilege of restoring and renovating this local treasure while working alongside McMillian Pazdan Smith Architects. Henry McMaster, the Governor of Columbia, will be presenting the accolade at the South Carolina State House.
