USC Dance Marathon Announces Historic Fundraising Goal And Playground For Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital

USC Dance Marathon's Executive Board announces to the public the 2018 $1,000,000 fundraising campaign for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital

COLUMBIA, S.C.- On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon (USCDM) announced a $1 million fundraising campaign in support of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. This is the highest fundraising goal in the history of USCDM, celebrating its 20th year. USCDM also announced plans to name the Dance Marathon at the University of South Carolina Playground at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The playground will create a safe outdoor play space for patients and siblings; promote the healing process; offer specially-designed equipment that will accommodate IV poles, wheelchairs and hospital beds; and allow families to be with their children in a normal play environment.

“This goal is a direct reflection of the passion ignited on our campus 20 years ago. It is a large and intimidating number, but not nearly as intimidating as a stay in the hospital can be. This goal won’t be easy, but it will be more than worth it, ” says President Jax Boucher.

The campaign will launch this Saturday, Oct. 7, as the University honors USCDM at the Arkansas v. USC home football game. USCDM will celebrate with all 80,000+ patrons of the football game by being honored during the first time out and setting up different opportunities to donate throughout the day. Before the game, members of USCDM will walk around with donation cans collecting funds on different tailgating grounds. Additionally, donors can make contributions through concessions by adding a $1 donation purchases. All donations during the football game will go directly to USCDM and benefit Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

USCDM also will volunteer and partner with the Parents Weekend 5K this Saturday, Oct. 7, at 8 a.m. The course will begin and end at Solomon Blatt P.E. center (1300 Wheat Street) and run through Columbia’s historic Shandon neighborhood. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a miracle family and the organization’s president, Jax Boucher.
