19th Annual Healthy Learners Champions For Children Golf Tournament In Memory Of George Younginer Hits The Links October 24

An exciting day of golf, food, entertainment and prizes will raise money to help remove health barriers to learning for South Carolina children

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – The 19th annual Healthy Learners Champions for Children Golf Tournament in Memory of George Younginer is Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Fort Jackson Golf Club in Columbia, South Carolina.  Registration begins at 10 a.m. followed by a noon shotgun start.  Following the day of golf are dinner and entertainment, announcement of winners, and the awarding of prizes.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the children served by Healthy Learners, which is a faith-based non-profit that connects children to care so that poor health is not an obstacle to doing well in school.  The organization addresses poverty at its root, so that future generations can lift themselves, and their communities, to a better life.

Team sponsorships, which include four golfers, start at $1,500.  A variety of sponsorship opportunities remain.  The tournament is all-inclusive, with complimentary food and beverages served throughout the day, a variety of contests and exciting prizes, a great round of competitive golf, opportunities to bid on silent auction items and a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Dick Smith Nissan of Columbia.  All sponsorships include recognition in The State newspaper “thank

you” ad, as well as the company name included in tournament marketing materials and on the Healthy Learners website.

This year’s Premier Exclusive sponsor is AFLAC, and tournament co-chairs are Dawndy Mercer-Plank, WIS-TV anchor and Matt Younginer, national account manager, Husqvarna and Healthy Learners Fund Development Committee member.

“It is a privilege to come alongside Healthy Learners and the Champions for Children Golf Tournament knowing the organization exemplifies the mission I believe is paramount to lifting up our children to solid ground,” said Mercer-Plank.  “This tournament is an opportunity to pour out my advocacy for children's health and reaching our communities' children in need.  I want to be one more crusader showing love, support, and direction in the health care of young ones so they can achieve their fullest potential.”

This is the 19th year of the golf tournament, which is the largest fundraising event of the year for Healthy Learners.  Last year’s tournament raised $108,000 to support the mission of Healthy Learners.

“The golf tournament is a really fun event and a great opportunity to help support our organization that continues to provide health care services for children who are in need and without resources,” said Jo Pauling-Jones, executive director, Healthy Learners.  “We partner with schools and community health care providers to not only help children secure needed health care services, but also to provide transportation and coordination of care for medical appointments.”

You can also support the event by volunteering or simply making a donation in any amount.  For registration and general tournament information please contact Haley Shealy, Golf Tournament Director at 803.331.4954 or email Haley.Shealy@healthylearners.com, or visit the Healthy Learners website at healthylearners.com.
