Amazon donates thousands of new books to South Carolina State Library Foundation

Rebecca Antill, Youth Services Consultant at the South Carolina State Library Foundation, holds up one of the donated books from Amazon. The foundation will distribute the books across the state, based on other sites’ needs and availabilities.

On Thursday, Amazon associates surprised the South Carolina State Library Foundation with more than 3,000 new books. The donation will significantly increase the foundation’s inventory to support the distribution of books throughout the state.

“We’re really the central point in providing books across the state, depending on other sites’ needs and availabilities,” said Debbie Yoho, board chair of the South Carolina State Library Foundation. “We’re very grateful to Amazon for their generous donation as we develop, support, and sustain a statewide community of learners.”

“Amazon started as an online bookstore, so we’re excited to give back to the South Carolina State Library Foundation and continue that tradition,” said Spencer Graham, site leader at Amazon’s West Columbia fulfillment center. “It’s important to us to give back where our associates live and work, so we’re proud to support local libraries in South Carolina.”
