Baker Elected Chair of City of Columbia CItizens Advisory Community for Community Development

William Baker, a citizen of Columbia and Senior Business Immigration Paralegal at HMA Law Firm, was recently appointed as Chairperson of the City of Columbia’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development. He has previously served on the City’s Tree and Appearance Commission and Co-Chair of the City’s Bike Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Mr. Baker recently obtained diplomas in Contract Law from Yale University, U.S. Health Law and Policy from University of Pennsylvania, and Diversity & Inclusion from Cornell University.

The Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development focuses on a Consolidated Plan to ensure collaborative and comprehensive process to establish a unified vision for community development actions. The Committee focuses on 1) planning, 2) implementations, and 3) assessment of the Consolidated Plan Programs. Further, the Committee advises planning, implementation, and the assessing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS Programs (HOPWA).

Baker is a Life Member of the NAACP, a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and previously served on the Board of the Piedmont Park Conservancy Committee for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in Atlanta, GA. His contributions to the local immigrant community and advocacy for bilingual children’s books to be distributed to them have stemmed from his passion for assisting nonimmigrants and immigrants obtain work visas and permanent residency within the U.S. More information on the Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development can be found at
