Cayce, S.C. (June 8, 2018) – It’s safe to say that Lillian Davenport is the epitome of selflessness. Having been a foster mother to 30 children while raising six of her own is no task for the faint of heart. Yesterday, SCE&G employee volunteers celebrated Davenport’s giving spirit by completing a weatherization and beautification project at her Batesburg home.
“Serving the community is ingrained in all of us as SCE&G employees,” said Sam Dozier, SCE&G vice president of customer service. “We participate in multiple weatherization projects every year and it’s always impactful and gratifying. Our employees appreciate the opportunity to help Ms. Davenport. She has single-handedly made a positive impact on the lives of so many, and it’s our honor to assist her in this way.”
Employees worked alongside volunteers from the Aiken/Barnwell Counties Community Action Agency, Inc. and the South Carolina Department of Administration’s Office of Economic Opportunity to complete the weatherization and beautification project.
SCE&G volunteers completed several tasks to make Davenport’s home safer and more energy efficient, including replacing windows, the laundry room door and panel and the attic hatch; installing new low-flow shower heads, a crawlspace door, smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide monitor; and sealing air and duct leaks.
