The University of South Carolina’s Office of Economic Engagement (OEE) announced Thursday that veteran business developer Andy Bernardin is joining its team to help cultivate new industry research partnerships.
Bernardin joins the OEE after 34 years with IBM, where he most recently served as director of its Healthcare, Education and Government unit in the Mid-Atlantic. While at IBM, he helped launch the new Center for Applied Analytics at USC, developed a $1.3 billion infrastructure partnership with the State of Georgia and led efforts to modernize South Carolina’s aging Medicaid systems.
His new role includes building on OEE’s success in connecting new and existing businesses with university talent and resources. Existing industry research partnerships include IBM, Boeing, Samsung and Siemens.
Bernardin lives in Columbia and received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Carolina.
