The City of Columbia Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) invites you to attend the City’s second annual Open Streets Event, Sunday, April 22nd, from 1-5pm along Devine Street. Open Streets initiatives temporarily close streets to automobile traffic, so that people may use them for walking, bicycling, dancing, playing, and socializing. This event will feature family-friendly activities for all ages focused around four key values: Sustainable Transportation Opportunities, Physical Fitness and Wellness, Civic Pride, and Living Streets. By hosting an Open Streets Event, Columbia is part of a global movement. The first Open Streets Events, called Ciclovías, were held in Bogotá, Columbia, to allow cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy and use public spaces allocated for streets. Similar events occur throughout the Southeast, including in Atlanta, Asheville, Myrtle Beach, and Charlotte. Please plan to join us for activities for all levels (wear comfortable clothing), and bring your bicycle for bike-related activities if you can! This event encourages the use of alternative transportation: please consider walking, biking, riding the Comet, or carpooling to the event. Comet routes 201 and 401 drop off near the event. Please note: Comet route 401 will detour onto Blossom Street between Queen Street and Kilbourne Road to avoid the street closure.
