Colonial Life Arena Celebrates 20 Years

Columbia, SC — Colonial Life Arena, coined “The Crown Jewel” of the Palmetto State, will celebrate 20 years as the treasure of South Carolina in November.

In the inaugural public event on November 22, 2002, Colonial Life Arena first opened its doors for the South Carolina Women’s Basketball season opener against Clemson. Since then, Colonial Life Arena with the largest capacity in the state, has remained the proud home of South Carolina Men’s and Women’s Basketball.  Serving as the premier entertainment and sports facility for Columbia, the Midlands, and all of South Carolina, the venue hosts a variety of entertainment events including concerts of all genres, comedy shows, trade shows, and family shows in addition to Gamecock Basketball.

“It’s both thrilling and gratifying to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Colonial Life Arena while remembering the many Gamecock Basketball games, entertaining shows, University events and community service events so many have enjoyed over the past two decades,” said Sid Kenyon, General Manager of the Colonial Life Arena. “It is genuinely a privilege to contribute to the cultural and economic success of Columbia and surrounding areas. It is equally exciting to look ahead to the next twenty plus years as we strive to provide additional cultural and economic stimulation for our University, city, region and state while offering a variety of events which may appeal to diverse audiences.”

“In 20 years, we have provided countless memories to more than 8 million fans,” noted Lexie Boone, Senior Assistant General Manager of the Colonial Life Arena. “It is incredibly necessary to thank the Midlands community for supporting our events as well as the University of South Carolina and industry relationships that continue to make it possible. We treasure the opportunity to provide enjoyable experiences and look forward to celebrating this milestone with the community.”

As Colonial Life Arena prepares to commemorate 20 years, fans are encouraged to sign-up for the Treasure Hunt Escape Room for the chance to win the GOLDEN TICKET – two tickets to every ticketed event FOR A YEAR (some exclusions may apply).
