More than a hundred community, government, and business leaders met on Monday at the Chapin Business and Technology Park located at I-26 and Columbia Avenue for the official ribbon cutting of this new 220-acre development established by Lexington County.
Vivian Ford, President of Core Technology Solutions, was asked to attend as one of the representatives of Chapin business owners, particularly because of her company’s focus on technology services in Chapin and throughout the Southeast.
This event brought together city, county, and state officials to present the completion of the technology park’s first phase. Mike Eades, Director of Economic Development for Lexington County, addressed the history, the current status, and the future outlook of the technology park for the town and the county. Infrastructure in the development is ready for activation, complete with water, sewer, power, lighting, roadways, signage, and lot division.
Debbie Summers, Chairperson of Lexington County Council, addressed the audience with the message, “Chapin deserves this!” She also highlighted the reality of how many entities are needed to make this development a success:
“It takes all of us. It is teamwork. And it’s not just Lexington County. It is the town of Chapin. It is the realtors that are present here today who might bring us that right company to this area. It is so many people.”
After the ribbon cutting, Mrs. Ford discussed with business and government leaders in attendance the virtues of and need for such a development to attract various types of technology companies that would benefit from the skilled workforce in Chapin and throughout the Midlands.
“Our area is becoming known around the nation as a leading technology center,” commented Ford. “We are rich with highly skilled IT talent that develops and supports the technical architecture and delivery systems for the insurance industry, healthcare, advanced manufacturing sectors, and much more.”
The hope expressed by many in attendance at Monday's launch was for cooperation on all fronts locally and for a forward momentum that would begin to be realized with the first technology companies putting down roots in Chapin.
