David M. Gilston Insurance Agency, Inc., a full-service brokerage house that represents various carriers for lines of insurance, with offices in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville, S.C., is pleased to announce several key leadership changes effective February 1.
• President | Tom Swayne, RHU, CLU, CASL, REBC, FLMI, ChHC, was named Chief Executive Officer. In 1978, Swayne joined the agency in the capacity of Sales Manager. Under his direction, the agency grew to be one of the largest employee benefit agencies in South Carolina. He possesses a LA&H license and is a South Carolina Department of Insurance sanctioned Certified Instructor for continuing education and teaches courses throughout the state promoting professionalism of the insurance community in South Carolina. Swayne sees his new role as affording him, “the opportunity to work with agents to help bring new technology in benefit administration to their employer groups. This is technology that has only been available to large employers and brings tremendous efficiencies to HR departments.”
• Vice President | Melanie Ensminger, was named President. Ensminger joined the agency in 2007 and will be responsible, along with the CEO and CFO, for establishing short and long-term goals, plans and strategies. Additionally, she will be responsible for presiding over the entire workforce and will assist in creating streamlined processes and managing day-to-day operations. Ensminger’s goal in her new role is, “to help continue to build an environment that lends itself to personal and business growth by providing a foundation of trust, accountability, and professional communication. This foundation will allow us to take the necessary risks to continue to move our company in a positive direction. With good people and good processes, anything is possible.”
