Duke Energy Contributes To New Children’s Museum In Hartsville

Columbia, SC June 21,2018 – Thanks to the support of contributors such as Duke Energy, EdVenture will soon open doors to its newest satellite location in Hartsville, S.C. and will offer a premiere, year-round, informal learning destination for families in and around Hartsville.

EdVenture Hartsville, powered by The Byerly Foundation, will focus on serving families with children age 8 and under with exhibits and programs that promote literacy, art, math and science. In addition to the 5,000 square foot museum featuring hands-on exhibits, school field studies, birthdays and camps will be offered in the location.

One of the highlights of the new facility will be the Tower of Power, sponsored by Duke Energy. “We were excited to be among the first to make a substantial commitment to bring this project to Hartsville,” said Mindy Taylor, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy. “This exhibit will help foster interest in the technology that powers the lives of our communities, as well as inspire the next generation workforce that will bring new ideas and innovations to our lives.”

“We are so grateful that Duke Energy made this one-of-a-kind experience available to our Hartsville visitors,” said Karen Coltrane, EdVenture’s President and CEO. “The more parents and children work to ‘power’ the stations, the more of its bulbs will turn on, modeling how a power plant generates energy for a community.

EdVenture Hartsville plans to open to the public on Saturday, June 30. Members are invited to a special preview Friday, June 29.

EdVenture currently operates two locations - Columbia and Myrtle Beach. Celebrating 15 years this November, the Columbia location is the largest children’s museum in the Southeast. Last year, that facility was visited by more than 200,000 and its after school programs in area schools served more than 500 Midlands area students. In March 2017, EdVenture merged with the Children’s Museum of South Carolina in Myrtle Beach and plans to open a larger facility, EdVenture Myrtle Beach, in 2019.
