COLUMBIA, SC – June 21, 2018 – Family Circle Magazine selected Columbia’s World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day as the top family-friendly festival in South Carolina and among the top 50 in the nation.
On newsstands now, the July issue of the publication features one festival per state by month. Putting Columbia on the map for its 16 million readers, Family Circle spotlights the April festival as a must-visit for South Carolina:
“Earn major cool-parent points at this kickin’ (and alcohol-free) party celebrating the positive impact of hip-hop and rap culture through DJs, dance, visual art, and interactive exhibits. Don’t miss Hip-Hop Family Day, whose previous headliners have included Kool Moe Dee, Kid ‘n Play, and MC Lyte.”
Founder and executive director of Love, Peace & Hip-Hop, FatRat Da Czar said, “There’s no better feeling than seeing Columbia on the national stage and getting the attention it deserves, especially in arts and culture. Hip-Hop Family Day is pioneering something very special and it’s an honor to have it highlighted in such a prestigious publication.”
Held on Columbia’s Main Street during the second weekend in April, this annual festival recently celebrated its sixth year with an all-female lineup headed by the legendary MC Lyte. Offering an unforgettable day of fun for all ages, World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day gathers the community together like no other event in the city. With 16,000 in attendance for 2018, the free festival’s attendance has grown exponentially from 4,000 in its inaugural year. Over 40 percent of attendees come from outside of Columbia, SC.
As one of the country’s largest monthly magazines, Family Circle began in 1932 and is published by the Meredith Corporation, a media conglomerate that also publishes People, Southern Living, Sports Illustrated, Time, Essence, and Better Homes and Gardens.
