COLUMBIA, SC – January 16, 2018 – Coming off the heels of a show-stopping performance at Columbia’s Music Farm this weekend with rap icon Slick Rick, South Carolina’s godfather of hip-hop FatRat Da Czar announces the date for 2018’s World Famous Hip Hop Family Day.
Hitting Columbia’s Main Street the second weekend in April, this year’s 3-day event will culminate in a family-friendly hip-hop festival from 11 to 6 PM on Saturday, April 14. With upwards of 12,000 attendees, Hip-Hop Family Day will feature the culture’s four primary pillars: MCs, DJs, b-boys, and graffiti.
“Hip-hop has been bubbling under the surface in Columbia for a long time,” explains Czar. “But this is the year it takes over the city. Local independent hip-hop artists are more visible than ever and even major festivals like Famously Hot New Year are inviting South Carolina’s own to grace the stage. I’ve been waiting my whole career to tip the scales. I’ve dedicated my life’s work to getting us to this point and I’m optimistic that the time has finally come.”
After dedicating the last half-decade to grooming and shaping Columbia’s next generation of hip-hop—local acts such as LaLisa, Grand Royal, ColorBlind, New Success Culture, H3RO, and Cole Connor—to ensure and secure the future of the genre in the city, Czar is preparing to make his mark on a larger scale in 2018.
“The insurance has been paid, and now I’ve turned my attention to launching out,” says Czar. “I wasn’t the first to start this wave, but I predict this is the year that wave will put the city of Columbia on the map.”
