Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Commercial Site Solutions (CSS), a civil engineering firm with offices in Greenville, South Carolina and Tampa, Florida.

“CSS has a unique reputation as an experienced site civil engineering firms with the ability to manage complex projects and serve a variety of clients,” GMC Executive Vice President of Engineering Kevin Laird said. “We are excited to continue building our engineering team in South Carolina and to establish our engineering presence in Florida through this new venture.”

Led by engineers Scott Stannard, Gene Hinkle and Mike Lukus, CSS has been providing site planning and civil engineering design services for a range of developments including commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional and residential since its founding in 2007. They have worked on a multitude of projects across the Southeast for recognizable clients including ALDI, Lowe’s, Murphy Oil and more.

“We would not have gone forward with this acquisition if it didn’t work culturally,” Scott Stannard, CSS co-founder and vice president, said. “When we saw the culture of GMC and got to know their leadership, it was clear this was the right thing to do.”

GMC is one of the Southeast’s most comprehensive multidisciplined architecture and engineering firms. Its in-house services include architecture, interior design, civil engineering, environmental services, landscape architecture, planning, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, electrical engineering and disaster recovery. The firm works on a multitude of project types in the public and private sector, including water resources, industrial, K-12 and higher education, municipal, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, sports, aviation, roadway and more.

“The resources GMC offers in-house and the added capabilities we now have to serve our clients is something we’re excited about, as well as the ability to expand geographically with the reach of GMC’s footprint,” Gene Hinkle, CSS co-founder and vice president, said.

The acquisition adds 12 employees to GMC’s staff – seven in South Carolina and five in Florida. The CSS South Carolina employees have moved into GMC’s Greenville office in Unity Park at 117 Welborn Street.

The CSS Florida staff will remain in their current location at 21764 State Road 54 in Lutz, Florida, just outside Tampa Bay. The Lutz office represents GMC’s fourth location in Florida, which includes offices in downtown Tampa, Sarasota and Pensacola.
