The Board of Directors of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Dinndorf as their new executive director. Ms. Dinndorf previously served as president of Columbia College and brings an impressive portfolio of experience in education, business, and financial management to the Foundation at an exciting time in its history of supporting the mission of the SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) in Hartsville.
Foundation Board President Ravi Sastry led an extensive national search. “The GSSM Foundation Board and I are very excited to have Beth as our new executive director. She comes to us with a vast background and relationships throughout the state that will allow the Foundation to continue to grow as we support the Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics.”
Dinndorf joins the Foundation as it gears up to support the School’s ambitious new strategic plan to identify and nurture top talent in early grades and to expand partnerships with schools and districts in communities throughout the state. GSSM President Dr. Hector Flores welcomed the appointment. “The Governor's School looks forward to partnering with Ms. Dinndorf and the Foundation team as we engage in a new chapter in our relationship. Beth and I share a deep commitment to enable opportunities for deserving students throughout our wonderful state. We will build on our shared passion for young talent to identify and take full advantage of the opportunities ahead of us.”
Active in women’s leadership issues throughout her career, Dinndorf enjoyed significant fundraising success while at Columbia College and helped to raise that institution’s profile among liberal arts colleges in the southeast. She looks forward to applying her experiences to raising awareness of GSSM opportunities and attracting a broad base of support. “I am thrilled to lead the Governor's School for Science & Mathematics Foundation and support the incredible work of the Governor's School to prepare South Carolina's future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Governor's School for Science & Mathematics is a national leader and a treasure for the people of South Carolina. I'm excited to be part of this exceptional team.”
Dinndorf holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from the College of Saint Benedict and a Juris Doctor degree from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. She is a resident of Columbia and will begin work at the Foundation on September 4.
The GSSM Foundation provides support and advocacy for GSSM, partnering with business leaders and philanthropists across the state to help the school achieve its mission to serve South Carolina’s highest achieving scholars in its nationally recognized residential, virtual, and outreach programs.
The SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics was founded in 1988 and currently serves 288 students in its Hartsville-based residential program, over 130 students in schools across the state in its virtual Accelerate and TEAM UP engineering programs, and thousands more through its teacher training, enrichment, and summer programs delivered in schools around the state and across the globe.
