GWA, Inc. recognized for House of Raeford Farms project

The American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) honored engineering achievements at the 33rd Annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Gala held at the UofSC Alumni Center on Feb. 5.

GWA, Inc. was awarded the EEA for Building/Technology Systems for their project, House of Raeford Farms – Wallace. This new 200,000 square foot plant is a Ready-to-Cook poultry processing facility which replaced the existing facility destroyed by fire in Feb. 2017.

As the largest employer in Duplin County, N.C., House of Raeford’s charge was clear: to get the plant back in operation better than it was before and to get their employees back to work as quickly as possible.

Having provided electrical engineering services for House of Raeford on earlier projects, GWA was brought onto the team for this accelerated design-build project.

The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented to public- and private-sector projects submitted in 11 distinct categories. This year 15 of the 82 South Carolina member firms submitted projects that were judged by a panel of industry experts based on a rigorous set of criteria, which includes complexity, innovation and value to society.

GWA also was honored by ACEC-SC with the Small Firm Award which is given for the highest rated project submitted by a small firm (fewer than 30 employees).
