Interim Leader Appointed at United Way Association of South Carolina

Columbia, SC (April 13, 2018) — The Board of Directors of the United Way Association of South Carolina (UWASC) announced today that Ted Hendry, a veteran United Way leader, has been appointed to serve as Interim President and CEO. Hendry’s appointment follows the recent resignation of Kelly Callahan Cruise who served the Association for eight years, including President and CEO beginning December 2015.

Hendry served as a United Way executive for nearly 40 years, retiring in December 2017 as President and CEO of the United Way in Greenville County, SC, a position he held for 17 years. He previously held positions of leadership with United Ways in Daytona Beach, Florida and Pensacola, Florida where he served as President and CEO from 1987-2000.

In addition to his professional career, Hendry has been engaged in leadership positions in nonprofit organizations in South Carolina, including service on the UWASC Board and past chair of its Chief Professional Officer Council. He is immediate past chair of Together SC, a leadership network of more than 700 nonprofit organizations in South Carolina. He also served as a Commissioner on the South Carolina Commission on National and Community Service.

Acting Board Chair Matt Hammond commented, “I truly appreciate Ted for his commitment to UWASC and the United Way network during this time of transition. His United Way leadership experience and his commitment to our mission of serving local United Ways will be of great value over the next few months.”

The Board will conduct an extensive search to identify new leadership for the organization.

“I have long supported the work of UWASC and I am pleased to be in a position to serve as the organization prepares itself for future service to local United Ways,” said Hendry. “United Ways are vitally important to the success of communities and people throughout South Carolina.”
