Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is proud to announce that our Human Resources Director Katie Herrmann has been appointed as the Workforce Development Chair of the Society for Human Resources Management’s (SHRM) Columbia Chapter in South Carolina. SHRM is an international organization dedicated to creating better workplaces by connecting millions of workers, Human Resources experts, and business leaders together to discuss best practices on issues impacting today’s evolving labor force.

As the Workforce Development Chair, Katie is responsible for highlighting workforce development initiatives that could help Columbia SHRM members improve hiring processes, personnel policies, and employee retention.

“Aligning the workforce development goals of SHRM with the important workforce development programs our agency provides South Carolinians with makes perfect sense,” said DEW Human Resources Director Katie Herrmann. “I am excited for this new role within the organization. My goal as the Workforce Development Chair of Columbia SHRM is to provide up-to-date information on the amazing opportunities DEW offers our local businesses, including workforce grants, training programs, tax credit incentives, hiring assistance, and the list goes on.”

“We are proud to have Katie working with us at DEW and now in this new leadership role at SHRM,” stated DEW Acting Executive Director William Floyd. “As our agency’s HR Director, Katie’s leadership of our Human Resources Department has brought lasting, long-term benefits to our agency, from developing an Employee Relations Plan to creating a more user-friendly recruiting process for our hiring managers. I know Katie will bring that same commitment and expertise to this role within Columbia SHRM.”

“I truly think I will learn as much from others as they will learn from me! Serving as the Workforce Development Chair will be an educational experience as I gain a better understanding of how the employment services and workforce development projects our agency oversees directly impact the community we serve,” concluded Herrmann.
