Lexington county Volunteer Recognized for Dedication and Service

Columbia, SC, January 26, 2018 – Shannon Brogdon, a Look Good Feel Better volunteer from Columbia, SC, was recognized with the State Sunrise Award for her service and commitment to the Look Good Feel Better program. Look Good Feel Better, a free, national program dedicated to improving the lives of women undergoing cancer treatment by offering guidance and advice to help them cope with the appearance side effects of treatment, presents the awards each year to volunteers who have made extraordinary contributions to the program and the lives of the women it serves. This award-winning volunteer was chosen as the LGFB Certified Volunteer from other candidates within the state of South Carolina, and was presented her award at a ceremony held at Lexington Medical Center.

Shannon Brogdon has been an integral part of the Look Good Feel Better program for the past six years. As a licensed cosmetologist, Shannon has been the sole and lead volunteer at Lexington Medical for many years.

“She interacts beautifully with the patients and they love her. It is obvious that she gives one-hundred percent of herself during these classes,” said Kelly Jeffcoat, Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Lexington Medical Center.

Sharon Johnson, ACS representative notes, “Volunteers are essential to the American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better program. The program would not be possible without their support, talents, and dedication.”

The Look Good Feel Better program is made possible in the U.S. through a collaboration of the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association. These three organizations have worked together since 1989 to improve the morale, confidence and quality of life for women during cancer treatment, offering a sense of normalcy and control during an often difficult and challenging time. Look Good Feel Better serves approximately 50,000 women each year in 15,000 workshops offered in more than 2,000 host facilities, as well as offering online and virtual services and support.
