Lourie Center Celebrates National Senior Center Month

Each September the Lourie Center, along with other National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) members, celebrates National Senior Center Month. The 2018 theme is Senior Centers: Building Momentum. Innovative programs such as those offered at such as the Lourie Center can change the perception of aging and create important community resources for aging expertise. The Lourie Center provides services and resources year-round. The following events are free (unless noted) and are open to the public.

Thursday September 6, 2-3:30 pm

Spiritual Cinema Circle: “The Perfect Game”

Spiritual Cinema Circle is uplifting stories from independent filmmakers that inspire love and compassion and connect us with the world. Based on a true story, “The Perfect Game” is about a group of boys from Monterrey, Mexico who became the first non-U.S. team to win the Little League World Series.

Lunchtime Lecture: “Hearing Loss and How it Affects the Body”

With Nancy Caudill, Doctor’s Care. Includes Hearing Screenings.

Lunchtime Lecture: “Your Life Your Legacy”

Mindi Witt, Seminar Coordinator and Cassie Ballard, Family Service Counselor, Dignity Memorial/Southland Memorial Gardens will address the importance of making final arrangements in advance and the steps to take.

Thursday September 13, 6-8 pm

Wine and Unwind: Raegan Teller Book Signing

Mystery Author Raegan Teller will discuss her first two books of the Enid Blackwell Series, which take place in The Midlands area of South Carolina. Wine and snacks served. $5 suggested donation.
