Lourie Center Transportation Program Celebrates Expansion

The Lourie Center’s 5 Points Wheels program, established in 2008, is a downtown transportation service for seniors and adults with disabilities who need safe, affordable transportation. The Lourie Center is now offering this service five mornings per week, Mondays-Fridays from 9:30 am-1 pm. 5 Points Wheels is a 15-passenger shuttle bus providing door-to-door service to medical appointments, personal errands, and shopping in and around Columbia’s downtown district.

5 Points Wheels service area includes the territory inside Sunset Boulevard, Beltline, Rosewood Drive, and the Congaree River. Each round trip ride is a suggested cost of $2 per individual. Regular stops are made at Christopher Towers Senior Residence, Finlay House Senior Residence, and Marion Street Apartments. See the website for territory maps, application, and more. For an appointment (24 hours advance notice required), call 803-779-1971 x 102.

5 Points Wheels is funded primarily by grants from the United Way of The Midlands and the Harbison Housing Foundation. The program supports the Lourie Center’s mission to help older adults maintain their independence by leading healthy, active lives.
