Columbia, SC (April 3, 2019) – A multi-day celebration (April 10-13) highlighted by a free, family-friendly festival that brings over 16,000 attendees to Columbia’s Main Street, this year’s programming for Love, Peace & Hip-Hop will include community partners like Columbia Museum of Art, Richland Library, and Tapp’s Arts Center for innovative and exciting events that celebrate hip-hop culture all over the city.
Recognized by Family Circle Magazine as the Top Family Friendly Festival in South Carolina and among the Top 50 in the nation, the festival’s marquee World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day is an annual free event held Saturday, April 13 on the corner of Main and Laurel in downtown Columbia, SC. This year, the festival will present legendary headliner Big Daddy Kane, supported by the iconic and historic Sugar Hill Gang and the Furious Five.
In preparation for Saturday’s big show, Love, Peace & Hip-Hop presents three days of events, starting on Wednesday, April 10.

Hip-Hop Bounce House Party at EdVenture Children's Museum
Grab the kids and come out for an afternoon of family fun filled with deejays, dancing, and bounce houses at EdVenture Children's Museum. Enjoy performances by award-winning musician and storyteller Kobie Da Wiz and nationally-recognized Super Beauty, promoting confidence, self-love, and anti-bullying. - FREE.
New Wealth Lounge at Richland Library
Meet up with South Carolina's next generation of entrepreneurs at the New Wealth Lounge. Powered by MoneySport International featuring DJ Swale spinning the latest wave of hip-hop in Richland Library Main’s newly redesigned auditorium, this event allows new school artists and young professionals to connect over the love of culture and entrepreneurship. Check out vendors like Off-Beat Kidd, SoleTouched and Soda Clothing Co.while battling for prizes over hip-hop trivia and off-the-wall raffles. – FREE
Tacos and Rap at Tapp's Arts Center
8:30 PM to 11:30 PM
Cap off the day at Tapp’s Arts Center with Tacos and Rap. Enjoy tasty tacos from the Taco Gang (Larry Frazier and MIDIMarc) and check out dope live sets from Dee 6ixx, Clay Maskin, Khemo, MoneySport International, Cartier, and J$N. $10.

Love, Peace & Hip-Hop Kick Off at Tapp’s Arts Center

Come kick off the 7th year of Love, Peace & Hip-Hop at Tapp’s Arts Center. Join us along with community partners, sponsors, and friends of the festival as we both look back on seven years of peace, love, unity, and having fun—and look ahead to our most exciting year yet.
Hip-Hop Karaoke at Tapp's Arts Center
Forget about the other karaoke nights you've been to and come experience the illest hip-hop karaoke ever. We've got the lights, the DJ, and the emcee. All you have to do is pick your favorite hip-hop track from the list, grab the mic, and release your inner rapper. Hosted by Unlockingrva and Hip-Hop Karaoke from Richmond, VA, and sponsored by the Free Times and Latino Communications Community Development Corporation (LCCDC), this is a next-level party you don't want to miss. – FREE

The Get Down at the Columbia Museum of Art
Get ready for The Get Down. Love, Peace & Hip-Hop is celebrating the four core elements of hip-hop culture — DJs, graffiti artists, B-Boys, and emcees — on the newly renovated Boyd Plaza. Pregame for the next day's 7th Annual World Famous Hip Hop Family Day at this free event reuniting Non-Stop Hip-Hop Live founders Shekeese Tha Beast and Kingpin VOV as DJs and hosts.
Enjoy performances by break-dance crews (DOA from Charleston and QCB from Charlotte), live painting exhibitions (curated by Cedric Umoja featuring Yessinia Hulsey, Karl Zurfluh, and Raynoldo Smalls), and DJs spinning everything from old-school classics to the latest wave. Make an evening of it with food and beverage vendors as well as a meet and greet with Czar Record's newest signee, Chadd Downing. This event is supported by a grant from the Knight Foundation Fund at Central Carolina Community Foundation. Free and fun for the whole family. – FREE

World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day at the corner of Laurel & Main, Columbia, SC
Presented by Love, Peace & Hip-Hop, the City of Columbia, and WellCare Healthy Connections, Hip-Hop Family Day is an unforgettable FREE day of fun with the best and brightest live performers, DJs, dance crews, hip-hop visual artists, and craft and food vendors.
World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day is proud to feature Big Daddy Kane as its headliner for 2019. A Grammy Award-winning artist who began his career in 1986 as a member of the rap collective the Juice Crew, Big Daddy Kane is ranked as one of the top 10 MCs of all time.
In addition to Big Daddy Kane, the legendary and historic Sugar Hill Gang and the Furious Five will both grace the stage as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight." Released on the iconic Sugarhill Records label, "Rapper's Delight" was the first rap single to become a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The Furious Five, with their platinum-selling classic, "The Message," was catapulted to international recognition and eventual induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Opening the live performances is CZAR Record’s newest signee, Chadd Downing. Originally hailing from Trenton, NJ, Downing relocated to South Carolina, establishing his premium flow as a member of the all-star collective, New Success Culture (NewSC). His album, Exit 7A, releases digitally on Friday, April 12. - FREE
World Famous After Party at Tapp's featuring DJ Shakim
After the party, it's the after-party! Directly after the World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day festivities, the celebration moves from the block to the building as the legendary DJ Shakim (New Edition, BBD, Teddy Riley, etc.) takes controls on the ones and twos, spinning the best of golden era hip-hop and R&B in the Skyline Room at Tapp’s Arts Center. DJ Kold Fusion will be in The Space Hall blazing the best island tunes of soca, dancehall, reggae, and more. DJ Swale will be in the Main Gallery spinning the latest greatest, wrapping up a three room, three DJ line-up for one great price. $10
