Columbia, SC, April 1, 2019 — Thomas & Hutton (T&H) is pleased to announce that MAJ Mark DeSouza, PE has been selected to participate in the 2019-2020 class of the SAME Leader Development Program (LDP). We would like to congratulate MAJ DeSouza for being selected as part of the inaugural LDP class, a total of 18 individuals from across SAME were chosen for this professional development program.
Developed with support from the SAME Foundation, LDP identifies and cultivates talent from within SAME’s membership to address the nation’s grand challenges. The program supports the development of the next generation of world-class military, government, and industry leaders for the Society and our nation through a curriculum of hands-on training, study, and active engagement in new opportunities. Participants will explore individual strengths and team dynamics, and discover their potential personally and professionally. LDP is a year-long commitment beginning at the Joint Engineer Training Conference (JETC) 2019 to be held in Tampa, Fla, May 7-9. The graduation of the first class will be held at the 2020 JETC in Washington D.C.
MAJ DeSouza is a Project Manager in T&H’s Columbia Civil Department, a graduate of Clemson University, and has served his country as a United States Army Reserve Engineer Officer. He has completed two combat engineer deployments to the Middle East where his platoons searched for and cleared roadside explosives. MAJ DeSouza also has an additional deployment to Iraq as a forward support engineer in a civil engineer capacity that included various projects, such as the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, North Ramp Expansion in Baghdad, Iraq, as well as ammunition holding areas and helipads.
In his role at T&H, DeSouza specializes in the planning and design of commercial, residential, industrial, and military developments. His notable projects include the USDA Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory in Athens, GA, Hawthorn Retirement Residence in Gwinnett County, GA, SLX Atlanta Mixed-Use in Dekalb County, GA, as well as several LIDL groceries and Wal-Mart stores.
