COLUMBIA, SC – The MGC Long Run returns to Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday, February 4 for its eighth year. Net proceeds will benefit the USO South Carolina, an organization whose mission is to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
“After a two-year hiatus during the pandemic, MGC is extremely excited to bring back the MGC Long Run for 2023,” says MGC founding member Rusty Goudelock. “We have been humbled over the years to lead the community’s support, through the MGC Long Run, in generating nearly $200,000 in contributions to nonprofits since 2014. We are proud to host the event this year once again honoring the selflessness and courage of our service men and women with net race proceeds benefitting USO South Carolina, the ‘Force behind the Forces!’”
The MGC Long Run has a race for everyone–15k Road Race, 5k Run/Walk, Virtual 5k and a half-mile Kids’ Fun Run. The races will begin and end at Columbia Craft Brewing Company located in The Vista of downtown Columbia. Runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to join the family-friendly race party taking place at Columbia Craft Brewing Company following the races.
“We are thrilled to have the return of the MGC Long Run,” says Joanie Thresher, Executive Director of USO South Carolina. “The funds raised from the MGC Long Run support things like our USO centers at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport and McCrady Training Center, where hundreds of thousands of service members find comforts of home annually.”
