Montgomery Construction Sponsoring Richland County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit

LEXINGTON, SC- Montgomery Construction, a local commercial construction company, is joining Richland County Sheriff's Department in their efforts to raise funds for their K9 unit. In doing so, Montgomery Construction is sponsoring their annual Guardians of the Night virtual 5K.

The race is held every summer; however, in light of all COVID-19 concerns, the decision was made to hold the Guardians of the Night K9 5K as a virtual event. The participants can complete the 5K run/walk at the location and time of their choosing anywhere from July 19-25.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the event, which began as a way to raise vital funds to support and protect all of the dogs in the unit. The event became even more pertinent in 2011, when K9 Fargo was killed in the line of duty. The event now serves as a way to honor Fargo’s memory while also ensuring that all of the dogs in the K9 unit have food, veterinary care, and safety equipment, including custom-fit ballistic vests for each dog.

The registration cost is $30, with all of the proceeds going to the K9 unit. All registered participants will receive a 2020 Guardians of the Night t-shirt. And all participants who finish the 5k and submit their results, will receive a limited edition RCSD K9 and Montgomery Construction neck gaiter! It will not only keep your neck cool during your next run, but will also double as a protective face mask.
