COLUMBIA, S.C. — The partners of Nelson Mullin Riley & Scarborough LLP have elected two Columbia, South Carolina, attorneys to the partnership effective Jan. 1, 2022. They are:
Nick Charles. Charles practices in appellate advocacy, including the formulation and coordination of litigation and appellate strategies. He also practices in commercial litigation with an emphasis on toxic tort and consumer financial services litigation. In 2020, Charles was named to the S.C. Supreme Court Pro Bono Honor Roll and has been noted as a 2022 Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch in the area of commercial litigation.
Donna Tillis. Tillis focuses her practice on complex business litigation, particularly in the areas of financial services, class action defense, insurance coverage and bad faith claims, and construction defect. Tillis’ practice has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Lawyers Weekly, and South Carolina Super Lawyers. In 2020, she was named to the S.C. Supreme Court Pro Bono Honor Roll, and in 2019, she was a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Pathfinder. She has also served in leadership roles in the American Bar Association and Defense Research Institute. Tillis was recognized in The State’s newspaper’s Top 20 Under 40 Class of 2021. Tillis was the first Black Editor in Chief of the ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal, and she was the recipient of the Bronze Compleat Lawyer Award in 2014.
Charles and Tillis are 2014 graduates of the University of South Carolina School of Law. They are among 18 attorneys elected to the partnership firmwide, with new partners elected across 12 cities and seven states.
