COLUMBIA, SC – The Women’s Rights & Empowerment Network (WREN) will host renowned author Rebecca Traister as the keynote for their fourth-annual statewide conference, 2020 WREN Summit: Mobilizing the Movement. A New York Times Bestselling author, Traister has written about women in politics, media, and entertainment from a feminist perspective and is the mind behind acclaimed works like All the Single Ladies, and, most recently, Good and Mad. The 2020 WREN Summit will take place on Monday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Columbia Museum of Art in downtown Columbia.
“2020 will be a pivotal year, but it is particularly important for women in South Carolina,” says WREN CEO Ann Warner. “WREN is excited to hear from Rebecca about how we can use this moment and our voices to further the movement. We hope attendees from all backgrounds, industries and passions will join us in the movement.”
Traister, an award-winning journalist and author, has become a leading voice on feminism and women in politics. Her writing has also sparked conversations on how the 2008 election reopened discussions of gender, generational differences, feminism, and sexism across party lines. Separately, Traister has written on how historically low rates of marriage can be a catalyst for massive social change.
This Summit will “Mobilize the Movement” by assembling a diverse group of speakers and panelists to discuss critical issues ranging from pay equity, to freedom from violence, to workplace protection, among other topics, to highlight those who are already making a difference in their respective fields or communities and inspire others to action.
This year’s event will also include a City of Women Bus Tour, giving a select number of attendees the opportunity to take to the road, visiting historical sites of women of note around Columbia. In 2019, Historic Columbia and WREN partnered to launch the City of Women initiative to highlight the legacies of female leaders throughout Columbia’s history.
Tickets are available online through Eventbrite. Sponsorship or general inquiries about the 2020 WREN Summit are welcome to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
