NEWBERRY, S.C. (Dec. 6, 2018) – Michael Stamp has joined Newberry College as coordinator of Campus Recreation in the Office of Student Affairs effective Nov. 26, 2018. In his new role, Stamp will focus on expanding the College’s intramural sports program, overseeing the campus fitness center and developing Newberry’s outdoor recreation/adventure programming.
Stamp comes to Newberry from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where he was assistant director of the Kelchner Fitness Center serving as residence director and programs coordinator.
“Michael’s experience managing a comprehensive campus recreation program will be a tremendous asset to Newberry,” said Michael Smith, Director of Student Engagement. “We look forward to seeing the new initiatives he will bring to our Campus Recreation program.”
During Stamp’s nearly four years at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, he oversaw a staff of 40 student employees and managed all aspects of the college’s intramural sports program. He assisted with day-to-day operations of the fitness center.
Stamp spearheaded collaborations between the Kelchner Fitness Center and local community groups, such as Special Olympics and YMCA. He developed and directed an annual outdoor summer camp for local youth. Stamp also served as an adjunct professor in the Geosciences Department teaching courses for students in the Outdoor Recreational Leadership major.
Stamp previously served as a graduate assistant/co-op Intern for Campus Outdoor Recreation Experience at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he oversaw all aspects of the program. He planned and facilitated more than 20 outdoor recreation/adventure program annually, managed the climbing gym and challenge courses and supervised equipment rentals.
Stamp is certified in First Aid, AED and CPR, and is a Wilderness First Responder. He also is a climbing wall instructor and a challenge course practitioner.
