COLUMBIA, S.C. - Nexsen Pruet announces Jimmy Byars and Jim Rourke of the firm’s Columbia office are Members (partners) effective January 1, 2018. Byars works with the employment practice group and Rourke practices in the areas of state and local tax and employee benefits.

Byars is an employment litigator with a focus on information security and restrictive covenant issues, including trade secret litigation, non-compete drafting and enforcement advice, and development of related employment policies. He also advises clients on a broad range of employment matters, including employment discrimination claims, wage payment issues, workplace investigations, and federal and state employment law compliance.
Rourke practices in state and local tax and employee benefits. In employee benefits, he handles matters related to employer-sponsored retirement and welfare benefit plans, including pension, profit sharing, and 401(k) plans, as well as health, accident, disability, Section 125, flexible spending, and other welfare plans. In his state and local tax practice, he handles tax controversies in corporate and individual income tax, sales and use tax, and property tax. Rourke also routinely assists nonprofit organizations in receiving and retaining tax exempt status.
