Sept. 8: Infant Mortality Awareness Walk in Sumter

In recognition of September as Infant Mortality Awareness Month, Palmetto Health Tuomey will host an Infant Mortality Awareness Walk Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m.-noon, at Palmetto Health Tuomey, Classroom One, 129 N. Washington St., Sumter. This event recognizes infants who are celebrating their first birthday and remembering those who are not. Sept. 11: Weight Loss Surgery Seminar

The Weight Management Center at Palmetto Health will offer a free weight loss surgery seminar for individuals interested in bariatric surgery Tuesday, Sept. 11, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist auditorium, 1501 Sumter St. The seminar will review the various types of weight loss surgery options and what to expect during and after surgery. Sept. 20: Joe Niekro Foundation Brain Aneurysm and AVM Support Group

If you are someone you love has been affected by a brain aneurysm or AVM (arteriovenous malformation), the Joe Niekro Foundation holds a support group for affected people to support one another and share their stories. The support group will meet Thursday, Sept. 20, 6-7 p.m., 5 Richland Medical Park Dr., Palmetto Health Richland Auditorium, first floor. Smoking Cessation Program Classes

Palmetto Health will host a Smoking Cessation Program classes Mondays and Wednesdays, July 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25, 5-6 p.m., Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter Street, Meeting Room 2. The program is free to attend. Results show 74 percent of smokers quit smoking by the end of the three-week program. For more information and to register, call 803 296-CARE (2273).

Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings:

Palmetto Health will offer free breast and cervical cancer screenings Tuesday, Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25, 5-7 p.m., at Palmetto Health Women’s Center, 1801 Sunset Dr. Registration is required. To find out if you qualify or to register, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

Take Five–Free Prostate cancer and Diabetes Screenings:

Palmetto Health will offer free Prostate cancer and diabetes screenings Thursday, Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., basement level. Registration is required. To find out if you qualify or to register, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

CPR and BLS Classes:

American Heart Association CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) classes are offered weekly by the Palmetto Health/USC Simulation Center every Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Cost is $75. Heart Saver CPR classes are offered two Tuesday afternoons each month; cost is $50. All classes begin at 1 p.m. at 14 Medical Park, Suite 300, Palmetto Health Richland campus.
