Party with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett at the Silver Scream Soirée
Museum’s largest fundraiser of the year celebrates It’s Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection
Saturday, March 7, 2020 | 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Columbia, S.C. – Experience a world of vintage glamour and the mysteriously unexpected at the Columbia Museum of Art’s 2020 Gala the Silver Scream Soirée, a black-tie affair to celebrate and support the arts, on Saturday, March 7. The museum’s largest fundraiser of the year fêtes the exhibition It’s Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection in an evening featuring special appearances by collector and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett himself as well as enthralling entertainment, live music, gourmet delights, and a live auction including one of Hammett’s signed White Zombie guitars.
Guests are encouraged to channel their inner Bela Lugosi and Fay Wray as they walk the red carpet to a lavish celebration featuring a Jim Hudson Lexus bubbly bar and collaboratively curated experiences and libations from Blackened American Whiskey, local restaurant Bourbon, and the Columbia Design League. Entertainment for the evening includes performances from The Dick Goodwin Band, Sam “Bassman” Jenkins, and the Columbia Arts Academy Band. Loosh Culinaire Fine Catering provides a devilishly delicious menu including hors d’oeuvres like “Enter Salmon” and “Beef Tenderloin of Transylvania.”
Best known as lead guitarist of the famed rock band Metallica, Hammett is also an obsessive collector of visually arresting horror and sci-fi film art and has dedicated the last three decades to creating one of the world’s most important collections. It’s Alive! features more than 100 pieces of graphic art including posters, toys, guitars, masks, and sculptures — many hailing back to the golden age of Hollywood — that have seeped into the public imagination and reflected society’s deepest fears and anxieties for nearly a century. Not only do these objects explore the power of graphic art in its own right, they have inspired Hammett’s work throughout his own artistic career.
Attracting many prominent community citizens, museum supporters, and art lovers from around the state, the Gala raises critical funds to support the museum’s mission to provide outstanding art and arts education for lifelong learning and community enrichment.
