Richland Library is continuing its celebration of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards with a special author discussion and guided tours of the Our Voice art exhibit. Join us from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2 at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street).

It's an opportunity to interact with award-winning author Carole Boston Weatherford, who's known for her children's books - including Freedom in Congo Square and Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom. Her books are recipients of three Caldecott Honors, two NAACP Images Awards, a SCWI Golden Kite Award and a Coretta Scott King Author Honor. A book sale and signing are set to follow the program.

Then view Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards, located on the library's Third Level and at the Columbia Museum of Art. The exhibit, which the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature organizes and tours, is celebrating 50 years of upholding the vital importance of children's literature that celebrates African American life and culture. It's on display through April 26.

This program is made possible, thanks to the African American Studies Department at the University of South Carolina, and it's held in partnership with the Columbia Museum of Art.
