NEWBERRY — Newberry College has appointed Russell Rivers as director of marketing and communications, effective immediately.
Rivers now leads the office he has served as senior graphic designer since his arrival at Newberry in 2017.
“I am excited to bring Russell into a leadership position on the marketing and communications team,” said Lori Ann Vinson Summers, vice president for institutional advancement. “Russell has great energy for the College’s vital projects ahead, including strengthening our brand identity and increasing the visibility of the institution.
“His previous experience in various roles offers our College a grand opportunity to benefit from his creative leadership,” she added.
Rivers assumes the role with nearly 30 years of experience in advertising, communications, creative concepts and marketing strategy. Before joining the Newberry College community, he served several different advertising and marketing firms, and his clients have included the Carolina Cup Racing Association, Hubbell Power Systems and the South Carolina State Fair.
“I am excited to take on the challenges and opportunities afforded me by this new role,” Rivers said. “Leading this team and innovating how the College is represented will allow me to continue to give back to the Newberry family.”
Rivers holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising and graphic design from the University of South Carolina, and a completion certificate with honors from the U.S. Air Force Graphic Design and Illustration School.
