COLUMBIA – River’s Edge Retreat, will hold its sixth annual Christmas event for underprivileged midlands children on December 3rd from 6-9pm at the Riverland Hills Baptist Church parking lot and activity field in Irmo, SC. This year’s event ONE NATION UNDER GOD will be honoring our 2020 Heroes: Teachers, First Responders, and the Military.
Guests will enjoy live concert music and be able to listen on their personal radio and watch our 55’ movie screen if they choose due to COVID concerns. Admission is free for the first time ever.
The proceeds will be returning to the camp as scholarship funds for underserved and homeless children to enter the program at no cost. Additionally, funds will go towards updating amenities at the retreat.
“Our mission is to change lives, no matter one’s financial or social status, through inspiring hope and reflecting the love of God,” said founder Steve Ware. The retreat acts as a summer haven for disadvantaged youth in the midlands. Over the course of 10 weeks, the children who attend the camp are exposed to everything from team building experiences on a ropes course to scripture-based daily activities.
The Christmas fundraising event was held for the first time in 2015 as a means of collecting donations for the costly operations at River’s Edge Retreat. Last year the event drew 800 guests and raised the most money in its history.
“This fundraiser will allow our guests to come and enjoy an evening of food, music and fellowship with COVID concerns addressed, while honoring our heroes and supporting our underserved children in our community” said Ware.
