S.C. Lieutenant Governor Issues Census Day Of Action Challenge

Lieutenant Governor Pamela S. Evette Challenges all South Carolinians to Be Counted
on Sept 26th – “SC Day of Action”

Columbia, S.C. (September 23, 2020) – Lt. Governor Pamela S. Evette, chair of the SC
Governor’s Complete Count Commission, is leading South Carolinians across the state in
efforts to improve South Carolina’s rate of completion for the 2020 Census on Saturday,
September 26. This is the last Saturday for households to self-respond to the census.

Counties, municipalities, and nonprofits are partnering to host sites in more than 25
counties where community members can access a range of services including Covid-19
testing, flu vaccination, census completion, voter registration, and other community
services.

Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, chair of the SC Governor’s Complete Count
Commission says, “All South Carolinians need access to these critical services and to
complete the census. Widespread Covid testing and flu vaccination will help keep our
economy moving this winter and a complete count for the census will ensure we continue
to grow and recruit new employers to the area for the next 10 years.”

A complete count of S.C. residents will drive local funding allocations for schools,
healthcare, disaster response, and more than 50 other federal programs for the next 10
years. Census data is used to support economic development and the installation of
broadband internet. Community leaders from more than 200 nonprofit organizations along
with leaders from every state government agency and local governments are working
together through the statewide commission and local complete count committees.
“We want to see every South Carolinian recognized, acknowledged, valued, and counted,” said Naomi Lett, President and CEO of the United Way Association of SC. “SC is currently
49th in the nation for total households enumerated. We can and must ensure every South
Carolinian is counted.”
