S.C. Philharmonic to Celebrate Halloween at Hogwarts

A special Sunday matinee performance inspired by the world of Harry Potter

Columbia, S.C.: On Sunday October 28 at 3:30 p.m., the S.C. Philharmonic will transform the Koger Center into the wondrous world of Harry Potter. Tickets are currently on sale at the Koger Center box office and online here.

“We love the opportunity to reach beyond our traditional repertoire and present family-friendly programs that appeal to all ages. Last year’s Star Wars Musiclipse was incredibly well received by our audience. We want to bring a show with the same energy again this year,” says Rhonda Hunsinger, Executive Director of the S.C. Philharmonic.

Along with music composed by John Williams for the Harry Potter films, Music Director Morihiko Nakahara has included fantastical and slightly spooky pieces by J.S. Bach and Camille Saint-Saëns.

Before the concert, the lobby of the Koger Center will be as bustling as Diagon Alley. Some events surrounding the concert include:

  • Free photobooth with special Hogwarts themed props
  • A special appearance by the Carolina Wildlife owl
  • Free face painting so attendees can have lightning bolts like Harry Potter

The S.C. Philharmonic is also partnering with Richland Library in an event leading up to the concert on Saturday October 13 at 2:30 p.m.in the Children’s Room at the Main location (1431 Assembly St.). Attendees will be invited to create costume props and have their photo taken at Hogwarts with the use of the library’s green screen studio. The event at Richland Library is free and open to the public.
