Savannah River Remediation Employees Lose Big to Win Big

AIKEN, S.C. (July 26, 2018) – Employees at Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, collectively lost more than 1,100 pounds through the company’s latest wellness program, the Biggest Winner V: RESET.

The three-month contest that just ended was focused on best percentage weight loss, and participants earned points by dropping pounds, attending lunch and learns, and participating in the American Heart Association “My Heart Score Survey.”

• Team Cereal Killers (team members Scott Wallace, Darryl Smith, Earl Brass, and Tim Baughman) took first place with 22.12 points
• Team Waist Evaporators (team members Casey Williams, Matthew Torres, Gina Mansell, Rick Mansell were second with 21.58. points
• The two top performers were Darryl Smith and Jeff Ledbetter
In total, 128 competitors lost 1,151.8 pounds. Nearly half of the participants were first-time competitors, said Roger Staten, SRR Journey of Wellness Director.

“It’s always a big win when we see first-time Biggest Winner participants taking a step to transform their lifestyles,” Staten said. “For some participants, this program is about making a dramatic change to ‘RESET’ their lifestyle in favor of healthy living, and for others, it’s just about staying on track and maintaining a healthy weight and diet. Not only do employees look and feel better, they increase their overall health, leading to a healthier and safer workforce.”

During the journey, specialists from the CSRA medical community presented wellness lunch and learns, covering topics like musculoskeletal and joint function, healthy eating, and exercise education.
