COLUMBIA, SC–The South Carolina Small Business Development Centers (SC SBDC), the state’s premier provider of business assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners, is pleased to announce that State Director Michele Abraham was elected by members of the America’s SBDC association to serve as Chairperson of its Board of Directors.

America’s SBDC represents the network of nearly 1,000 SBDC offices and 5,000 employees nationally. It is the Small Business Administration's largest partnership program, providing management and technical assistance to help Americans start, run and grow their own businesses.
Abraham was selected Board Chair at the ASBDC’s annual meeting held September 4-6 in Long Beach, Calif. This will be Abraham’s sixth year as a Board member. She has previously served as Board Vice Chair and Secretary. America’s SBDC Board comprises 10 elected Directors responsible for the supervision, control and direction of the Association’s mission, overall policies, strategic and operating plans and budget.
Abraham, who has more than 25 years of small business development experience, joined the SC SBDC as its Director in 2010. In this role, she leads the organization’s more than 56 employees, providing strategic vision and oversight in the continued success of South Carolina’s principal business assistance organization.
Under Abraham’s leadership and commitment to continuous improvement and performance excellence, the SC SBDC has earned two national accreditations at the highest level with no conditions and multiple commendations and best practice citations.
Abraham is credited for leading the organization during a period of unprecedented change. From increasing its role in boosting small business U.S. exports to developing a special unit focused on technology commercialization projects, Abraham’s strategic leadership consistently has achieved impressive results, including increased ROI for taxpayers. Members of her team say she is a gifted communicator who challenges others to work hard while holding herself to the same high standards.
