Scott & Corley Partner, Ronald “Ron” Charles Scott, has recognized at a sold-out dinner event as a 2023 recipient of the COMPLEAT LAWYER PLATINUM MEDALLION, the highest such alumni honor bestowed by Scott’s law school alma mater, the University of South Carolina School of Law.

A 1976 graduate of the law school, Scott was one of three attorneys to receive the 2023 Platinum Award as he joined with Rebecca Laffitte (’83) and William Witherspoon (’91) as the 2023 Platinum recipients. Platinum Medallion recipients are attorneys who have practiced for at least 31 years or more and “who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and their communities and exemplify the highest standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity”. The 2023 Section Committee was comprised of The Honorable Donald Beatty, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court; The Honorable Bruce Williams, Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals; William Hubbard, Dean of the University of South Carolina Law School; Hagood Tighe , President, South Carolina Bar Association; and Alysja Carlisle, President of the Law School Alumni Council. Scott was nominated for the Platinum Medallion by Columbia area attorneys , Kathy Dudley Helms of the Olgetree Deakins Law Firm, Leigh J. Leventis of the Leventis Law Firm, and Reginald P. Corley, Managing Attorney of Scott & Corley PA.

Prior to entering law school, Scott graduated with multiple academic honors from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where he was also the recipient of the Distinguished Military Student (“DMS”) leadership award as well as a President’s Special Recognition Award at graduation. He also holds both a MBA (’72) and a Masters in Accounting (’76) degrees from the Darla Moore School of Business at USC. Scott also served as the Chief Residency Officer for USC in the 1972-1973 as well as taught in their evening school program. He has also served as an Assistant Clerk and Research Fellow of the SC Senate in 1974-1976. Scott graduated from the United States Army Adjutant General’s School in 1973 as a First Lieutenant prior to entering law school.

With a multi-decade focus on public, civic and community service, Scott has been recognized as a recipient of the ORDER OF THE PALMETTO, the state’s highest civilian award, as well as with the unanimous proclamation of “Ronald C Scott Day” on October 12, 2017, by the then Mayor and City Council the City of Columbia. He was previously selected for the 2018 inaugural class of the SOUTH CAROLINA LAWYERS HALL OF FAME by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly (r) as well as the 2019 inaugural class of ICONS and PHENOMS by the Columbia Regional Business Report (r). He is also listed in BEST LAWYERS IN AMERICA (Woodard/White ) and SUPER LAWYERS (Thomson Reuters). Scott has also been selected as a “GO TO” Lawyer in Business by SC Lawyers Weekly (r) as well a a recipient of the 2019 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION Award by SC/NC Lawyer Weekly (r) publications. Scott has also been cited for his philanthropic efforts and scholarships with several state based institutions including the University of South Carolina Law School, The Citadel, Furman University, Francis Marion University, Columbia College, and the Hammond School.

The University of South Carolina School of Law was established in 1867 and was that time among the first 30 law schools in the country. Dean of the Law School William C. Hubbard, a nationally recognized attorney and educator, and The Honorable John C. Few, Justice, South Carolina Supreme Court, presented Scott and the other 2023 recipients, Becky Laffitte, and William Witherspoon, with their respective Platinum Medallions.
